How Attorney Listings Are Created

Most attorneys listed on Lexfora never signed up. Here is exactly how a listing comes to exist, and what you can do about yours.

Where the information comes from

Lexfora creates attorney listings from publicly available information, including state bar records and law firm websites. An attorney does not have to sign up, agree, or be aware of Lexfora for a listing to exist.

Where we have a specific source for a listing, it is linked on the profile under “Profile source”. A listing is a compilation of public facts — name, firm, location, practice areas — not a profile the attorney wrote.

What we add

Contact and location details drawn from public sources.
Practice areas, as described by the source.
Where we have checked a bar record: the jurisdiction, the status we found, and the date we looked.

What we never add

Headshots taken from firm websites. Unclaimed listings show initials. A photograph appears only after the attorney claims the profile and uploads one.
Copied biographies presented as the attorney's own. Where a description appears on an unclaimed listing it is labelled as compiled by us and not reviewed by the attorney.
Subjective praise. No “aggressive”, “trusted”, “top-rated” or “successful”. Those are opinions, and they are not ours to publish about someone who never asked to be listed.

State rules

Attorney advertising rules differ by state. Before a listing is shown publicly we apply the rules for that jurisdiction: where a state does not permit unclaimed third-party listings, the profile stays hidden until the attorney claims it, and where a state requires specific disclaimer wording, we attach it. Where we have no confirmed rule for a state, we default to requiring the attorney to opt in.

Correcting or removing a listing

Any attorney can ask to correct or remove their listing, whether or not they have claimed it. We action removal requests without requiring you to create an account or speak to anyone first.

What a listing is not

Lexfora does not recommend, endorse, rank by quality, or vouch for any attorney. We check specific facts and say which ones we checked. Everything else is your judgement to make.

Lexfora takes no referral fee and accepts no payment for placement. No attorney can pay to appear higher in results or to be suggested to you.
