Ranking and sponsored placement

Search ordering on a legal directory is an editorial act. Here is ours, stated plainly.

How results are ordered

Best match shows attorneys who fit your search — your words, practice areas and location all narrow the list — and then orders what is left by whether we have checked their licence, and by years in practice. It is not paid placement: no attorney can pay to rank higher, and Lexfora takes no referral fee.

You can change the ordering at any time — by distance, rating, number of reviews, years in practice, or how recently we checked a licence. The control sits directly above the results.

What money cannot buy

Lexfora takes no referral fee and accepts no payment for placement. No attorney can pay to appear higher in results or to be suggested to you.

There is currently no advertising product on Lexfora. No listing in any result set today is paid for, in whole or in part.

If that changes

If Lexfora ever introduces paid placement, every paid result will carry a visible Sponsored label in the results themselves — not only in a policy page — and paid results will never be presented as “best match”. Our ranking policy will be updated before any such product launches, not after.

Firms can register interest in a future territory product on our exclusive territory page. That is an interest list, not a placement product: holding a territory slot does not move an attorney up the results today, and would not do so without the Sponsored labelling described above.

What ordering is not

Lexfora does not recommend, endorse, rank by quality, or vouch for any attorney. We check specific facts and say which ones we checked. Everything else is your judgement to make.

A higher position does not mean an attorney is better, more competent, or more likely to win your case. It means they matched your search terms more closely under the rules described above.
